Overview of TUJ
Based in Philadelphia, Temple University is a public Carnegie-designated R1 research university that ranks in the top 350 of all universities worldwide according to Times Higher Education (2023). Established in 1982, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) is a full-service branch campus that engages students from nearly 80 countries in American-style, English-language active-learning education. TUJ is expanding, financially healthy, and has just hired over 25 new full-time faculty members in the last two years. Moreover, TUJ’s Kyoto location will open in Spring 2025, offering students opportunities to study in the storied cultural capital of Japan.
TUJ offers undergraduate majors to a broad mix of over 2,500 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional undergraduate students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on TUJ for a short-term study abroad experience.
In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, TUJ offers twelve full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to International Business to Asian Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with 80 full-time faculty and instructional staff joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.

These positions are part-time for the semester, with the possibility to continue teaching in the future. Successful applicants will teach one or two courses per semester.

Qualifications & Experience
- Instruction is in English. Fluency in English is required.
- Terminal degree preferred; MA, and ABD considered.
- Teaching experience at the university level required.
- Be available to teach in-person classes.
- Teaching online classes is optional: for this option, online teaching experience at the university level is required. Successful applicants will be expected to complete Temple’s Online Teaching Institute prior to the semester.
