Salary & Benefits
In accordance with the pay scale determined and used in this program. Support is also offered for conferences, travel, and other research/creative related expenses. Annual bonuses may be possible.
Job Summary
The Communication Program at TUJ invites applications for a student-centered full-time faculty member to start in the Fall of 2025. Applicants should hold a terminal degree related to Communication, Media Studies, or Mass Communications by the time of employment.
The program is looking for candidates who have a strong teaching and research background in new/digital/social media or anime/animation/pop culture in combination with communication theory/analysis. The successful candidate is expected to teach general, introductory communication studies courses (in areas such as intercultural, rhetoric, etc.) as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialty. Applicants should demonstrate experience in undergraduate student research mentorship and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Faculty members at TUJ have the opportunity to teach a diverse student body from around the world. Candidates may be asked to teach traditional in-person classes, online classes, or hyflex classes. The successful candidate will collaborate with the division chair on the yearly course offerings.

TUJ offers undergraduate majors to a broad mix of over 2,500 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional undergraduate students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on TUJ for a short-term study abroad experience.
In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, TUJ offers twelve full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to International Business to Asian Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with 80 full-time faculty and instructional staff joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant field
- Experience and excellence in teaching
- Commitment to students and their success
- Fluency in English required
- A solid record of research, a strong publication profile and an on-going research agenda preferred
- Experience using educational technologies and online delivery methods preferred
The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in relevant communication theory and will be able to teach undergraduate courses in writing, media production, content production in digital media environments, and media analytics.
