Job Description
The successful candidate will lead cutting-edge research focused on advancing infrastructure systems with an emphasis on longevity, resilience, and intelligence. The candidate will be responsible for exploring the mechanisms and principles of mechanical behavior in structures, developing technologies for automated construction, and contributing to disaster mitigation efforts. Additionally, they will work on optimizing the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure by integrating experimental, measurement, and numerical analysis techniques with information and data science. This research will address challenges such as creating sustainable infrastructure systems that are both efficient and adaptable to future environmental conditions.
Alongside their research, the successful candidate will play a key role in the department’s educational and administrative activities.

About the Department
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tohoku University focuses on the planning, design, and construction of critical infrastructure, including bridges, highways, transportation systems, and water supply. Research areas include environmental engineering, urban planning, infrastructure design, and disaster control, utilizing physical, chemical, and biological processes to address environmental issues. Numerical simulations and analytical mechanics are applied to solve challenges in structural and materials design.
The department collaborates with the Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES), Graduate School of Information Science (GSIS), IRIDeS, and CNEAS, providing students with opportunities to work on real-world problems through funded research projects.
