The International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) at Tohoku University is recruiting a professor for the Computational Safety Engineering Lab (Risk Evaluation and Disaster Mitigation Research Division).
Being able to predict disaster risks accurately and efficiently is crucial for ensuring the resilience of our society. IRIDeS is looking for researchers passionate about establishing advanced technologies that allow for risk assessment of complex disasters, real-time damage prediction, efficient visualization of disaster impacts, and probabilistic risk assessment considering uncertainties in natural hazards, exposure and vulnerability. Techniques may involve approaches such as digital twin and data-driven sciences, in collaboration with diverse fields of disaster science. The successful candidate will also promote basic and practical research, with the ultimate goal of real-world implementation.
The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to education in the department of civil and environmental engineering.
