Overview

National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan) invites international applications from researchers who can conduct research in materials science. NIMS employs outstanding scientists from various countries who have abundant knowledge and strong research skills in materials science. We welcome applications from female researchers, non-Japanese researchers and researchers who have careers in private companies.

  • R25-03  Battery Materials and Characterization
  • R25-04  Magnetic refrigeration system
  • R25-05  Designing and exploration of electronic materials
  • R25-06  Electrochemical Analysis of Hydrogen Embrittlement Behavior
  • R25-07  Advanced High-Pressure Synthesis
  • R25-08  Optical nanostructure
  • R25-09  Development of advanced computational materials science methods and their application to next-generation devices and advanced materials
  • R25-10  Development of Advanced Electron Microscopy with Informatics and Their Application to Materials
  • R25-11  Self-driving laboratory for materials science

Research Environment Support up to 10 million yen depending on the research plan at the time of arrival is available.

Employment Data

Salaries (estimate in FY2025) just for reference:

Immediately after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 6.78 million Yen (estimate)

Five years after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 7.18 million Yen (estimate)

Ten years after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 8.45 million Yen (estimate)

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  1.  Possess a Ph.D. degree or be expected to obtain a Ph.D. by the start date of employment.
  2.  Be fluent in English for written and oral communication.
  3.  Other requirements depending on the field for application (see NIMS website).
