Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Astrophysics and Multi-messenger Astronomy – Chiba University, International Center for Hadron Astrophysics

Chiba University, International Center for Hadron Astrophysics

Position Description

The International Center for Hadron Astrophysics (ICEHAP) at Chiba University invites applications for a two-year postdoc position (starting from April 1, 2025)  in Experimental Astrophysics and Multi-messenger Astronomy.

The candidate is expected to work with Assistant Prof. Wataru Iwakiri on the research project “Probing high-temperature plasma around a black hole approached by observations with the up-to-date astronomy”, and Prof. Shigeru Yoshida on the research project “The creation of multi-messenger astrophysics — The unified picture of dynamical universe driven by births of black holes” funded by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. We plan to conduct research to obtain and/or constrain observational physical information on the high-temperature plasma around a black hole, which is relevant to understanding the mechanism of particle acceleration around a black hole. The mass of the black hole and the type of messenger to be observed are not required. We especially welcome applications from those who are interested in multi-messenger astronomy with neutrinos and are motivated to broaden their research interests.

Citizens of any nationality are welcome to apply. Chiba University is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of our academic community. ICEHAP is committed to promoting interdisciplinary research in neutrino astronomy and related fields in a multicultural environment. About half of the researchers in the Neutrino and Multi-messenger Astronomy Division are non-Japanese nationals.
