Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Graduate School of Humanities, Division of Foreign Studies at Osaka University is dedicated to the study of 24 languages as well as the cultures based on those languages. This pursuit is both theoretical and practical in nature with a focus on foreign studies that is founded on comprehensive research and education from the perspectives of various fields in the humanities and social sciences and also through interdisciplinary approaches using high levels of language proficiency.
The Graduate School of Humanities, Division of Foreign Studies is seeking a scholar who possesses specialized knowledge of these areas and will contribute to strengthen language education at Osaka University. Please see below for the details.
Work content and job description
Engage in education and research on English language, British and American literature and culture, which includes teaching classes offered by the Graduate School of Humanities (Division of Foreign Studies major) (herein referred to as “the Graduate School”) and the School of Foreign Studies for 10-12 classes per week (one class lasts 90 minutes). Classes are assigned by the Graduate School. Candidates will also be expected to engage in other duties required by the Graduate School and the School of Foreign Studies, including grading entrance examinations, proofreading graduate students’ papers, etc.

Ph.D., M.A. or equivalent certification in English education (TESOL), English language, British and American literature, or British and American culture.

Description
An applicant is deemed qualified if s/he:
(1) has a Ph.D., M.A. or equivalent certification in English education (TESOL), English language, British and American literature, or British and American culture.
(2) has general knowledge of the cultures and societies where English is spoken.
(3) is a native speaker of or possesses native-like language proficiency in English.
(4) has an experience of teaching English at some Japanese institution of higher education.
(5) has some Japanese language proficiency. (It is preferable.)

Others : (1) A commuting allowance will be provided.
(2) The appointed applicant will be provided with furnished residential facilities equipped with electricity, gas and water services throughout the term of the contract. Please note that the appointed candidate will be responsible for both rent and utility costs.
(3) Upon assuming the post, the candidate will be provided with a part of relocation expenses.
(4) Travel expenses to return to their home country and a part of other relocation expenses may be provided in accordance with the regulation.
(5) Any of dependent allowances, bonuses, or retirement allowance will not be provided. -
Insurance
Others : The successful candidate will be enrolled in the National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations, Employment Insurance and Workers’ Accident Compensation Insurance.
